The Introduction of an Invention Title
-------------------
A kind of implantable shunt and the device to implant it
Abstract
-------------------
a kind of shunt is provided, which consists of the central tube and two symmetric foldable semi-tube-shaped or tube-shaped sections on each end. When these two sections meet together, they become the straight elongation of central tube with their width equal to the tube diameter. The device to implant the shunt consists of axis, glideable section and handing section. The axis fixed on the handing section. The glideable section is assembled on the axis, which is glideable along the axis. The distance between the anterior end of the axis and the anterior end of the glideable section, is equal to the shunt with its foldable sections meeting together on both ends. Between the glideable section and the handing section, there is a spring. The application of this invention can make present syringo-subarachnoid shunt and cyst-subarachnoid shunt operations carried on more easily with less injury and more convenient shunt fixation.
Description
-------------------
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a kind of implantable shunt and the device to implant it, which particularly applied to syringo-subarachnoid and cyst-subarachnoid shunt operations in the treatment of syringomyelia and intramedullary cyst.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Some of the patients suffering from syringemyelia and intramedullary cyst need syringo-subarachnoid and cyst-subarachnoid shunt operations by the neurosurgeon. There is no shunt system specially designed for this application. Present solution for it is always using medical silca gel tube cut form ventriculoperitoneal shunt. The operation is carried on according to the following steps: 1.cutting the silca gel tube to certain length and tying it with suture; 2. syringostomy; 3. putting the tube into subarachnoid space; 4. putting one end into the syrinx or cyst, the other end kept in the subarachnoid space; 5. suturing and fixing the tube on the pia mater or dura mater. These manipulations are complicated, need relatively big wound and do more injury to the spinal cord and surrounding structures, prolong the operation duration, and, the tube fixation is difficult. All these do harm to the outcome.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In the light of the above defects, this invention provides a kind of special implantable shunt with a special implanting device for it, which can be easily implanted and fixed reliablely, and can decrease injury to the wound and spinal cord.
The features of the invention will be better understood through a study of the following detailed description and accompanying drawings.
The implantable shunt consists of the central tube 1, and two symmetric foldable semi-tube-shaped (Fig. 1 and 2) sections on each end, upper section 2 and inferior section 3. The symmetric foldable sections can also be tube-shaped (Fig. 1 and 4). The tube and four foldable sections are integral and like an Ħ°HĦħ at original state. When these two sections meet together on each end, they become the straight elongation of the central tube with their width equal to the tube diameter (Fig. 3: semi-tube-shaped, Fig 5: tube-shaped).
The device to implant the shunt consists of axis 4, glideable section 5 and handing section 6. The posterior part of the axis 4 is rotateably fixed on the handing section 6. On the anterior end of the axis 4 there is a location flake 7, which is located between the meeting foldable shunt sections 2 and 3 (Fig. 3). On the posterior end of the axis 4 there is a knob 8, which is used to change the direction of the location flake 7. The glideable section 5 consists of anterior tube 9, posterior tube 10, and the connecting section 10 between. Out of the anterior tube 9 there is a thick section 12, which limits the depth entering the spinal cord. Out of the posterior tube 10 there is a trigger 13. The glideable section 5 is assembled on the axis 4, which is glideable along the axis 4. The distance between the anterior end of the axis 4 and the anterior end of the anterior tube 9, is equal to the shunt with its foldable sections meeting together on both ends (Fig. 3). Between the glideable section 5 and the handing section 6, there is a spring 14. On the axis there are scales 15, which reveal the gliding of the glideable section 5 along the axis 4.
The operation applying this invention is carried on as following. The operation is carried on through semi-laminar approach. The dura mater and arachnoid membrane are cut open and suspended with suture. According to the position of the operating hand relative to the spinal cord, turn the knob 8 to adjust the direction of the location flake 7. Put the shunt into the anterior tube 9 with the foldable sections meeting together on both ends, as Fig. 10 shows. After syringostomy, plug the anterior end of the implanting device with shunt (Fig. 10) into the syrinx or cyst. Be attention not to exceed the thick section 12. Then trigger the trigger 13. The glideable section 5 glides backwards and the shunt is released, with its meeting foldable sections restoring to original state one after another on both ends, one end in the syrinx and one end out. Thus the shunt is fixed on the syrinx wall. ĦĦĦĦĦĦĦĦ( Top )
